Voices Against 377 is a coalition of 12 Non Governmental Organisations and progressive groups based in Delhi. It is a unity of various social movements that these groups represent, that came together to protest the anti sodomy law, as defined by Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalizes adult and consensual sexual acts deemed to be against the order of nature. The Working Group on Human Rights (WGHR) is a coalition of civil society organisations and independent experts, established in 2009, working in the field of human rights in India. The basis of WGHR’s work is national and international human rights law. WGHR works towards the realisation of all civil, cultural, economic, political and social human rights in the country and towards holding the Indian government accountable to its national and international human rights obligations. At the national level, WGHR seeks to engage with relevant human rights, government, parliamentary, judicial and academic institutions. At the international level, WGHR seeks to effectively work with United Nations (UN) human rights instruments and mechanisms. National Coalition Advocating for Adolescent Concerns (NCAAC) established in December 2019 with 22 cross-sectoral organizations led by Partners for Law in Development (PLD) was formed to realise the recognition, protection and fulfillment of the best interests of adolescents that are commensurate with their developmental stage and evolving capacities within the child protection framework under Indian law, policies and government action. Feminist Inquiries for Rights and Equality (FIRE) is a consortium of organisation across South Asia established in July 2019 comprising of PLD, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), Social Scientist’s Association (SSA) -Sri Lanka, Aahung – Pakistan, Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WoREC) – Nepal and International Women’s Rights Action Watch (IWRAW) Asia Pacific. The consortium took the initiative of mapping narratives surrounding child and early marriage (CEM) as well as gender identity and sexual violence within South Asia and exploring responses to CEM other than criminalization.
