JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – SENIOR LAW RESEARCHER   

 

We are looking for a senior law researcher with at least 4 years experience to head the research unit of the organisation, which involves facilitating and undertaking socio legal research linked to change agendas and policy advocacy on women’s rights. Familiarity with women’s rights debates relating to sexuality and violence against women is necessary, as is fluency in Hindi and English. The candidate must be a self-starter, with leadership, capacity to supervise research teams, produce reports.  

 

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Partners for Law in Development (PLD) – is a legal resource group working in the fields of social justice and women’s rights in India. Founded in 1998, the organization locates women’s rights as integral component of social justice, engaging with it in contexts of sexuality, culture, caste, conflict and development. We have three mutually reinforcing programme strategies, comprising of capacity development, research (creation of knowledge resources) and advocacy. We work with organisations at the community/ state/ national/ Asia Pacific levels, the government, and other stakeholders whose work shapes and promote public policy. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to women’s rights, reflected, with ability to relate to different constituencies, and of working with consultative processes. Key qualifications include:

 

  1. A law degree with at least 4 years of work experience in India in relation to women’s rights. An advanced qualification in law or relevant social sciences is desirable but not necessary.
  2. Knowledge feminist debates and contemporary women’s rights concerns.
  3. Demonstrated research and writing skills. A record of undertaking research, writing of papers, reports, presentations.
  4. Good written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
  5. A team player with good inter-personal skills, capacity to guide a team and to deliver within time lines.
  6. A willingness to make a three year commitment to the organization.

 

JOB PROFILE/ RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will facilitate and implement action research as well as desk based research; and will be required to lead research teams.  The responsibilities involve working consultatively with field investigators, researcher assistants and experts to design appropriate methodologies to implement research projects, monitor timelines, review the progress, and produce reports, papers and advocacy documents.  Knowledge of the substantive and procedural aspects of laws, particularly the new laws relating to sexual violence is essential; knowledge of human rights standards, including CEDAW is desirable.

 

SALARY

Salary and benefits are comparable to the non-profit sector; and commensurate with experience and internal equity.
