PARTNERS FOR LAW IN DEVELOPMENT
Position – Legal Associate: Research and Advocacy

PLD is looking for a law researcher to assist with policy briefs and advocacy in relation to sexuality, criminalisation and the law, at the South Asia and national levels. Familiarity with women’s rights debates, relating to sexuality and violence against women is necessary, as is legal training and fluency in Hindi and English.  

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to women’s rights. Key qualifications include:

  • A law degree with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in relation to women’s rights, gender and sexuality in India.
  • Knowledge of feminist debates and women’s rights campaigns related to gender and sexuality issues.
  • Demonstrated research, writing and communication skills. A record of written/ published papers, reports, presentations.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi.
  • A team player with inter-personal skills, capacity to deliver within time lines.
  • A willingness to make a two year commitment to the organization.

 

JOB PROFILE/ RESPONSIBILITIES

Over the next two years, PLD seeks to build consensus on issues relating to adolescent sexuality, in relation to intersections between early marriage, age of consent and the law. The legal associate will be responsible for policy briefs, communications and consultations across India and South Asia, to support this work.  

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Partners for Law in Development (PLD) – is a legal resource group working in the fields of social justice and women’s rights in India. Founded in 1998, the organization’s socio legal research, knowledge resources and publications, and related advocacy spans issues of access to justice, sexuality, violence and harassment, particularly in the context of adolescents, workplace cultures, domestic and intimate partner relations, and in relation to targeted violence within communities, especially, witch hunting. SALARY

Salary and benefits are comparable to the non-profit sector; and commensurate with experience and internal equity.
